Tribute to the great Suzanne Allday

What follows may be considered a surprising entry into the annals of the Hammer Circle's history for a lady who is best known for her outstanding performances with discus and shot, as well as being married to a British record hammer thrower at the time.We wish to record Suzanne's contribution to hammer throwing, being one of the earliest lady exponents of the art at a time when athletics as a whole, including the newly formed Hammer Circle, was less than sympathetic to ladies practising events which were then seen as overly strenuous -not only hammer, but also marathon and steeplechase.She really was a major figure in UK throws athletics for a long time and her career ended as those of Mary Peters and Rosemary Payne began to flourish.
